Learn the pros and cons of the growing trend of indie author publishing, including how to evaluate your options, the basics of formatting and cover design, e-book options, and how marketing your self-published book. All of these are tackled differently when your book is self-published, as opposed to a traditionally published book.
Course Outline
Session 1: Evaluating Indie/Co/Self-Publishing: The Pros and Cons of Doing it Yourself, and whether you and your project are a good match for Indie.
Session 2: Understanding the Do-it-Yourself Process: We’ll look at the various things you need to master if you’re going to indie-publish.
Session 3: Why EBook? We’ll look at the limitations in e-book technology and what it takes to convert your book into an e-book for Kindle and others.
Session 4: Marketing an Indie Book: We’ll look at three major components of a marketing plan: your brand, an Internet presence, and what is needed in a social media plan.
Presenter Cheri Cowell is owner and publisher at EABooks, a division of Living Parables of Central Florida. She has been both traditionally published and indie published and is therefore familiar with both aspects of the business.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and Cheri’s workshop will run 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with an hour break for lunch. Admission fee of $15 includes the meal.
Location: Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1655 Peel Ave, Orlando 32806. We’ll meet on the ground floor of John Calvin Memorial Hall. The doorway is under the stairs in the southwest corner of the courtyard.
